From the words of Sinan Kocapınar who is one of the founding members:
“Istanbul Whisky Friends was founded at the end of 2011 by Abbas Ataman, Veysel Oğuz, Sinan Kocapınar ve Ziya Akış after a whisky course by Mehmet Yalçın. There was no group which was on whisky tasting by then.
We had our first meeting at Abbas Ataman’s apart hoteş with an additional member Halil Kanmaz. We named ourselves as ‘Istanbul Whisky Friends’. Right now we are 12 people. On April 2013 we also organized a trip around Scotland and got to know malt whisky better. We conduct our tastings with an amateur soul and split the check once a month.”
