In the last years, Port barrels have been really useful for a lot of distilleries to offer a different variety of flavors to their customers. I also chose a Scotch whisky with the Port barrel influence as the Best of 2019.

Traverse Whiskey Port Barrel Finish is also a really interesting expression from the distillery. I did like how the taste evolves until the finish. The nose offers an impression of overshadowing wine barrel influence with the abundance of red fruits. The palate is the highlight of the whiskey and finish is a little bit astringent which made me cut some points. I think the whiskey is really pleasant in general, however, Port influence is overpowering bourbon characteristics. In a blind tasting, we could here too many different opinions on the type of whiskey.

I believe in time, with the help of Michigan's climate, this expression will get more balanced and have a depth of flavors.
