Scotch Malt Whisky Society has become a cult whisky society after its foundation in Scotland, growth in the UK and Europe. In the last years, they have also started growing in the USA with SMWS America and becoming more influential every day. They have a great bottle coding system which has a number dedicated to a distillery. We call it the SMWS Codes. For malt whiskies, it is currently between 1 and 141, increasing every time a distillery joins the tribe. This page is one of many cheat sheets on the internet if you need to find out what distillery made the liquid in your SMWS bottle.

SMWS is not all about malt whiskies any more. If you get a little bit into it, you will find grain whiskies that start with ‘G’, Bourbons that start with ‘B’, rums with ‘R’, Armagnacs with ‘A’ and Cognacs with ‘C’. I have tried to make the tables as easy as possible for you to search in their respective categories. Just enter the code, or the distillery name to the particular table and voila!
