A barrel proof 10 year old rye is not easy to come by and if you do it is not often affordable. Redemption 10 Year Old Barrel Proof Rye is on my table today with a stunning proof of 116.2.
How Does It Taste?
Redemption 10-Year-Old Barrel Proof Rye has a mash bill of 95% rye, and 5% malted barley. It is a well-known recipe for MGP. Being aged for 10 good years in the barrel and tasting this product barrel proof was exciting for me.
The nose is rich with a barnyard start, persimmon, sandalwood, cocoa. rye spices, leather, dry cut ginger and berries. The palate has ginger dryness, black tea, leather, peppercorn, cinnamon and licorice. As time passes sweeter notes of sweet potato, cream custard appears and the transition to the finish is lovely.
The finish has spices and floral qualities with lemon zest, bitter notes and honey.
Verdict
This one is a great sipper for any rye whiskey drinker out there. It is approachable despite the high proof, balanced with flavors. Sweetness and spicy character are well refined with a solid texture.
It easily sparkles with the rich nose and progressive palate it offers. The dry palate makes you want a bit more every single time. I am pretty surprised with how I liked the Barrel Proof Selection of Redemption.
