Nose: Starting with citrus, you feel like entering into an orange grove. Then you feel caramel, after a couple of seconds creamy aromas appear and they are followed by peach, melon and milk cream. So rich!
Palate: Soft, creamy and dangerous! If you are with a group of beloved friends and somehow possess a bottle of Ultis, that bottle will be finished easily. Despite being an easy drinkable whisky, it also has a big body with winter spices and fruits like mango and apple.
Finish: Floral finish blends into heather notes ending in malty, big finish.
Chivas Regal Ultis was definitely one of the biggest news of 2016. I had the chance to taste it at its launch with spectacular audience. Ultis has five different malt whiskies from Speyside Region. Namely, Allt-a-Bhainne, Tormore, Strathisla, Longmorn and Braeval. At the launch, I experienced a sensory tasting with these 5 malts and of course tasted the ultimate blend, the Ultis at then end. During deconstruction, especially Longmorn malt amazed me with its complexity and long impact.
Night was long! So we didn't hesitate to drink this cool whisky both neat and with ice. It had rich texture, chewy body and sublime finish.
Honestly, the only question I still have about this particular dram is its pricing. Its competitors such as Johnnie Walker Green Label, Monkey Shoulder, Johnnie Walker Island Green excel with their cost and performance ratios.
Aside from the price, the whisky is speaking out lout for itself. If you can justify the price, it is worth having it in your library.
Also I would love to see higher proofs of Chivas Regal Ultis in the future since 40% can sometimes be too low.
