Nose: Herbaceous start with grapefruit zest, cloves, allspice, cardamom, cinnamon bark and cherries
Palate: Baking spices take the lead with caramel, toasted rye bread, nutmeg, allspice. There is quince like dryness.
Finish: It is very dry, black tea tannins and peppers
Chicken Cock Rye Whiskey came from unknown and made me write a review about it. I have written about the story of Chicken Cock Whiskey on my Chicken Cock Bourbon Review.
After tasting the bourbon, Chicken Cock Rye Whiskey somehow felt like a step up in complexity. Nose gives you a bunch of hard to digest spices that feel hot. However I observed a well balanced nose.
Palate is definitely lighter than I have expected but dryness elevates the impact of spice and toasted feeling. Finish also continues where the palate leaves with a tannic base and peppery touch.
For me the rye whiskey performed a step better than the bourbon. It felt somewhat richer and made to detail.
