Nose: Perfume like start with dried fruits, tobacco, damp leather, wood after rain. So old for such a young whiskey.
Palate: Cinnamon and hazelnuts arise at first which are then blended into dark chocolate. Cloves, allspice, baked apple with a subtle oaky feeling and a really easy drinking texture crowns it.
Finish: Warm and lingering. Cinnamons, dates and oak tannins are perfectly in balance.
I wrote it before! I haven't had any low quality spirits from Barrell Craft Spirits. I have tasted numerous bottles from the company over my spirits buying period and at whisky trade events. I was never disappointed and time to time ended the tasting pretty happy. This is one of the happy times.
Barrell Bourbon Batch 022 is a 5 year old bourbon from a marriage of bourbon from Kentucky and Indiana.
Even though this is a 5 year old whiskey, it is shining between its older siblings. Calling it complex won’t necessarily describe what I want to tell.
Insanely drinkable with 116.6 proof, well integrated flavors which don’t overpower anything else. Almost chewable texture, with a deep pleasing nose. Great bourbon for steak or as a medium cigar companion.
This bottle has a Gold Medal from San Francisco World Spirits Competition in 2020
Barrell Bourbon Batch 022 deserved every point I have awarded.
My only complaint would be my ice trial as it blocked a lot of flavors I loved, brought out some bitterness I didn't enjoy that much.
